Ron James, MD
Dr. Ron James is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in joint reconstruction. His practice covers sports injuries, trauma, and arthritis of the hip and knee, with a focus on restoring movement and independence for patients whose joints have worn down or been injured.
A Stanford graduate twice over, Dr. James earned his undergraduate degree in Biological Science with honors and then his medical degree with honors from Stanford University School of Medicine. His orthopedic surgery residency was at the University of California, Davis Medical Center, and he went on to a fellowship in comprehensive joint reconstruction at the University of California, San Diego.
Hip and knee replacement, hip arthroscopy, and revision of previous joint surgery are the center of his work, and he has performed thousands of procedures over more than two decades. At Mercy General Hospital, where he is Chief of Orthopedic Surgery, he was part of the team that introduced robotic-assisted joint replacement. He also trains future clinicians, teaching nurse practitioner students from Samuel Merritt College of Nursing and family medicine residents in the Methodist Hospital residency program.
Dr. James looks for the least invasive path that will work for each patient. He explains the options plainly, from conservative care through joint replacement, and helps patients choose the one that fits their goals.
